With the arrival of 3.0 came the removal of wormhole travel to other galaxies - but it saw an increase in Carrier capacity from 60, to 80. Version 3.0 brought massive overhauls to the game compared to the two prior versions. Released in early 2020 with it's first server: Antares. All version 2.0 servers use the 'Spiral Galaxy'. Version 2.0 brought some slight changes to the games mechanics: A 'Fleet Maintenance' fee was introduced to encourage players to become more actively engaged with the game, the cost of recruiting new 'Base Commanders' was significantly reduced & the cost of bases was increased. Version 1.5 uses the old 'Circular' Galaxy system in Astro Empires, with the exception of Nova through Utopia which use the new 'Spiral' Galaxy. 1.5 is considered to have been introduced after major updates to Alpha became less common. It's also the only 1.5 server that gives a players the chance of their first base being on a planet as opposed to a moon - which is the default starting planet in 1.5 servers. Alpha is considered the de facto version 1.0, being the first server created it has gone through the most major updates since the games creation.

Version 1.5 is longest running version of Astro Empires, it applies to servers from Alpha to Utopia. The differences in versions offer an insight into the timeline Astro Empires expansion since it was first incepted back in 2006. For example: Both Versions 2.0 & 3.0 induct a system called 'Fleet Maintenance' - while 1.5 does not. The player base currently stands at 16,000.Įach version varies altered game mechanics. At it's peak, Astro Empires had over 60,000 unique players spread across all their servers.
